I know I said you’d hear from me in March, but too much happened over the Family Day long weekend for me to stay quiet, so here’s what went on in our community over the weekend:
• Bardh Kadriu from Sette Muay Thai had his first-ever demo/fight on February 15th, 2025. Bardh either took his demo fight a little too far, or he figured out that the only way to force a result out of a demo fight is to get a knock down! Either way, Kru Ralph is very proud. I hear Kru Ralph’s wife is not very happy, however, as she was just getting used to the sound of the pad work being white noise to her ears all night long.
• Tiana Osborne, Vipin MJ, Aanchal Vashishtha, and Kru Arash attended the Winter Shred at Varsity Stadium on February 16th. They didn't tell me Popeye was going to be there or I would have gone too! They participated in various challenges and put up a good fight! Kru Arash thought to give basketball one last shot while the whole world was watching… The whole Kingdom spoke up and said, “STICK TO MUAY THAI!”
• Kru Ruben was caught doing the shimmy shimmy while watching his student fight. Given he’s been seen out in the wild a lot recently, dressed in camo and carrying a gun, we’ll let it go.
• Ajahn Suchart and Kru Alin headed to Whitehorse, Yukon, to hold a Muay Thai seminar for our First Nation. Ajahn Suchart wore a hoodie to the seminar which wasn’t even red. I hear even the huskies in Yukon are now reacting to the sound of “Jot Muay”!
• The Fighting Minister attended a Shout Out Fight Podcast with Connor McGregor. For anyone planning to listen, the podcast is an hour and 30 minutes long! I’m looking for people willing to split it with me: we each listen to 10 minutes of it and exchanges notes. Anyone?
• The Fighting Minister also organized another community Muay Thai training and sparring session at 10th Planet Etobicoke. The attendees were surprised to see they had to shovel snow for the warmup. Coach Hamed may have warmed up a little too much, with steam coming out of his ears, and tried to start a sparring session out in the parking lot. Our Trevor, who recently won a belt, put on his superhero outfit and told everyone "Men, let's take it inside"!
• So, I’m a little annoyed that hockey players are stealing our thunder! Canada played the USA after nearly a decade, and there were three fights during the first 9 seconds of the game! Yah! Fights in an international hockey game! I don’t know if any of the MTO judges were watching those fights and could tell us if Canada won. Speaking of judges, why are the hockey players allowed to fight without their gloves? They need MMA grabbling gloves if you ask me! Connor McDavid and Austin Matthews are now considering attending some pad work sessions at Kingdom Muay Thai in preparation for their next hockey game in another 9 years. Who knows, after this last game, they might even consider going to Thailand for some training.
• Last but most importantly (drumroll):
